Three-year PhD position; Cell Biology of RNA Viruses; Heinrich Pette Institute – Leibniz Institute for Experimental Virology

Cell Biology of RNA Viruses
The Heinrich Pette Institute Leibniz Institute for Experimental Virology (HPI), is committed to research on the biology of different human viruses as well as the pathogenesis of viral diseases (
http://www.hpihamburg.de). The HPI offers the opportunity to perform cuttingedge research in a worldclass research environment with excellent technical facilities.

Despite their small genome, RNA viruses are capable to hijack a myriad of cellular pathways and outsmart the host innate immune response in order to replicate their genome, thereby causing a broad range of diseases. Within the Leibniz Science Campus “Integrative analysis of pathogeninduced compartments” (InterACt,
https://www.leibnizinteract.de/), the junior research group “Cell biology of RNA viruses” of Gabrielle Vieyres unravels these complex hostpathogen interactions, with a focus on hepatitis C virus and host cell lipid droplets (https://www.hpihamburg.de/en/researchteams/juniorresearchgroups/cellbiologyofrnaviruses/).

We are looking for a talented and highly motivated PhD student (m/f/d) with eagerness to learn, work in a team and make fundamental discoveries. Applicants should hold a MSc degree (or equivalent) with focus on cell biology, virology or related disciplines. Ability to plan experiments independently, develop methods and perform complex analyses as well as solid knowledge on cell biological processes are required. Prior experience in virology, advanced fluorescence microscopy and/or programming would be a plus.

The project addresses the role and spatiotemporal dynamics of the lipid droplet compartment during viral infection. In addition to the traditional virology and molecular/cellular biology techniques, the prospective student will employ stateoftheart imaging and image analysis tools to shed light on this hostpathogen interaction. You will be working in a young and cooperative group, in an international environment.

We offer a threeyear PhD position, starting as soon as possible in 2022. Payment and social benefits are in accordance with regulations of the German TVAVH (salary agreement public service employees).

Applications should include a CV, a cover letter highlighting the specific qualifications and indicating the earliest starting date, copies of high school and university transcripts and up to three references, in a single PDF. Please submit your application by November 30th, 2021 at

personalabteilung@leibnizhpi.de
. Late applications may be considered until the position is filled.
