An NIH-funded postdoctoral position is available in the Plemper lab at Georgia State University in Atlanta. We develop applicable antiviral therapeutics against major respiratory RNA viruses such as influenza virus (Science Translational Medicine 2019; PMID: 31645453), paramyxoviruses (Nature Microbiology 2020; PMID: 32661315), and SARS-CoV-2 (Nature Microbiology 2021; PMID: 33273742). Research in the lab covers all stages of pre-clinical drug discovery and development including identification of druggable targets, assay development, automated high-throughput drug screening, hit-to-lead development, mechanistic and structural characterization, pharmacological profiling, and efficacy assessment in animal models and disease-relevant human tissue organoids.

The successful candidate will join an experienced team to develop and efficacy-profile next-generation coronavirus inhibitors. A sound foundation in cell biology and/or molecular virology is essential, as is the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team. We seek highly motivated applicants with a strong desire to advance basic scientific discoveries to applicable antiviral drugs. Candidates with prior experience in animal or organoid models of viral infection are particularly encouraged to apply.
